I recently learned more about the Bio-based Industries Consortium (or BRIDGE), which currently brings
together almost 50 European large and small companies, clusters and
organisations across technology, industry, agriculture and forestry.
They have all committed to invest in collaborative research, development
and demonstration of bio-based technologies within a public-private partnership framework.
Bio-based industries are described as sectors active in the bio-based value chain
including the production, mobilisation and/or use of renewable raw
material (as opposed to fossil fuels) as well as applying bio-based
processes to make a wide range of products such as chemicals, food and
feed, detergents, paper and pulp, textiles, fuels or plastics.
